Delete Facebook? Some Advice from Paul Zolin '59
Paul Zolin ’59
Just before Zuckerberg’s House Hearing regarding practices on Facebook, I was a target on a very clever scam. I began to search for ways that so much of my personal information could have been accessed. What I found was that FB had an unauthorized pathway into my personal data through my Facebook account. They had tapped into my address book and stole over 800 addresses, they had shared that and other data with 31 entities I never heard of. I knew nothing about this until I checked out my account.
I found this method to delete my account and after I had downloaded what information was listed in my FB account I deleted the account per the document below. I did not open, look at, etc anything that mentioned FB for over 90 days and am now separated permanently from Facebook. Here is the procedure to rid yourself of Facebook. Unfortunately that includes the chapter’s FB page as well. And further it only applies to new data not the old stuff stolen before.
I know we all think social media like this is cool to use with your friends, but they have shown despite what they say you are sharing it with the world. And some of those people are not very nice nor honest.
In my humble opinion, information is safer shared through a web site with confidential information password protection. When this site is reprogrammed it should be with those kinds of pages protected. Unfortunately, My site software only permits the entire site to be password protected which would limit its usefulness with many brothers.
Should you wish to consider also deleting your FB account, the “How to document“ is below. Be sure to look at and download your account before executing as stated below.
