Brothers,

I visited with Joe and Ann two weeks ago. They were both in good spirits. We enjoyed a wonderful conversation and dinner in spite of Joe's advanced MSA. Joe and Ann have coped heroically over the past two years.

Joe has always been a very special friend and brother to me.

Ann is planning a memorial gathering this coming weekend. No details yet.

Folks,

Joe's wife Ann called Sue today to tell her Joe passed away this morning after many years of fighting a terrible MSA disease. I don't have any specifics yet but will pass on any information when received.

Joe fought this awful disease for many years and it was very tough on Ann. She said hospice was terrific. They have a daughter who is flying from California tomorrow to help Ann with all the tough arrangements. Please keep them in your prayers.

Best,

Dave

A Memory of JoeCos - From September 1961

I was a Clarkson sophomore and still a pledge of Lambda/DU - that afternoon had been told by my mother my grandfather had passed earlier that day. I told no one. Even though I was very upset I decided to attend that evening's fraternity meeting anyway - got to the paddling stage but couldn't take and walked out of the meeting (walking out was like you were quitting the frat).

Went back to the Hill dorms - decided to go for a walk in the wooded area next to the gymnasium - I was very upset.

In the darkness of the woods I then heard a voice "Denis are you OK?"  And out of the darkness there appeared JoeCos - he had come from the Elm Street meeting sensing something was wrong. After I had a good bawl Joe and I had a long talk - Joe assured me that everything would be all right.

At that point I knew that the Lambda/DU group was were I should be - I'll never forget Joe's consideration that glowed that evening so long ago.
