Brothers,
I'm not an overly emotional guy, but the memory of Mike and Alma attending our March reunion will stay with me for life. Tethered to an oxygen tank, recovering from (2 recently administered pints of blood) and a several hour ride from Jupiter, smiling and talking to each of us, and just happy to be among Lambdas, surely must be what fraternalism is all about.
Mike was a vet, older than most of us and could have stayed above the frat action. But, he joined in, participated with interest and enjoyment and always added to our mix. His desire to attend, and attend, despite increasing fraility, is an inspiration of commitment and dedication to what has kept us together these so many years.
While I cannot say that I was as close to Mike as to other class members, we always talked, kidded, remembered and laughed. What more can be expected? Another of our "bros" have passed. To life long friendships!
Fraternally,
Jack (Ike) ’59
Brothers
To reiterate Jack's thoughts, most in our class ('59) were 18 and 19 year old still wet behind the ears, looking towards our first opportunity to be living on our own. The brothers were wise to add a sense of maturity bringing along the likes of Mike, Fritz Schuttenhelm, Don Norden, Carl Paccio, John Conley and Jim Youmans later joined by Gil Ferdon to help steer the ship and provide stability to balance some of our over exuberance. Mike was one of those guys, when he talked he always made sense. Mike made every one of our gatherings in FL and Potsdam, barring 2004 in Potsdam when his motorhome caught on fire while en-route, otherwise nothing would stop him. I am glad he found the joy in being with us as we did with him, we will miss him.
Fraternally,
Paul ’59
