Fundraising Letter Sent Out Through Clarkson University
Dear Brothers,
DU is coming back! Thanks to many dedicated Lambda and DU brothers, a very receptive and helpful Clarkson University and the support of the DU National staff, we will launch a re-colonization in fall 2013. This past January several alumni spent two weeks at Clarkson conducting a successful communication program to announce the return of DU. As Jim Wood ’64 coined with “DU REDO", we are on our way to renew our proud 100-year tradition!
At the same time, Clarkson has introduced a new concept of theme housing on the hill. These Adirondack Style homes will house 20 students each. The first two houses will be occupied by Sigma Chi and Sigma Delta this fall. Construction of two more houses will begin this summer with completion by fall 2014. One of these will be the new DU House. We are working with the architects now to finalize the design incorporating 30 Elm signature features.
Clarkson is funding construction of the basic house at $1.9 million. The DU Alumni Corporation Board and our House Construction Committee is currently finalizing the design for the chapter house, including the enhancements to the basic design, estimated at $350,000, which will be funded by the fraternity. We expect to begin construction early this fall with occupancy in August 2014. The tight construction schedule requires that we raise this amount from the Brotherhood over the next three months.
We are pleased to report that at the DU/Lambda Alumni Corporation annual meeting on campus during Reunion Weekend, we publicly announced to the brotherhood the launch of the DU REDO House Campaign. To date, over $199,825 in advance gifts and pledges has been received from thirty brothers toward our goal of $400,000. We are also pleased to announce that brother Jim Wood '64 has helped to energize the Campaign for the house by making a pledge to provide a personal gift of 10% of the total gifts and pledges raised by the DU REDO Campaign by June 30, 2014, up to a maximum of $50,000. Thank you Brother Wood!
We are now beginning outreach to the entire Lambda/DU brotherhood to ask that you consider making a gift to the project above any support that you might already provide to Clarkson. The Campaign is being done in partnership with the University, so all gifts are tax deductible. Gifts of any size are welcomed! All of the spaces in the new chapter house have designated naming opportunities which will be assigned to donors on a first-come-first served basis as gifts and pledges are received. If you are interested in one of the remaining naming opportunities, please contact either one of us as noted below. All donors making a gift of $500 and above will be recognized on a plaque that will be displayed in the chapter house.
There are a number of ways to make a gift, including on-line through the Clarkson giving website using a credit card. Please consider maximizing your gift to the DU House Project through a multi-year gift commitment. Whenever making a gift or pledge, please make sure to designate your gift for the DU House Project. If you have any questions about the DU REDO House Campaign, naming opportunities or making a gift, please contact one of us below, or Don Dangremond ’72 in the Gift Planning Office at Clarkson at 315-268-2235 or don.dangremond@clarkson.edu.
This is an exciting opportunity for the DU/Lambda Iota Brotherhood. Your help will make the new chapter house a reality as we welcome new undergraduate brothers this fall and re-establish the proud history and traditions of Lambda/DU on Clarkson’s hill campus.
